profile
My interest in embroidery started in childhood with a fascination for stitching. The exploration of stitch, the excitement of colour and texture are important elements of my work. With photography and sketching, on site, as a starting point, my work evolves….using needle, thread and fabric to ‘draw and paint’ my finished piece. By layering sheer fabric over paint and paper, together with my passion for hand embroidery, I interpret nature and the effect of man-made materials such as glass, metal or stone.Although a constant source of inspiration is the beauty and variety found in the natural world, recent exploration of architectural and still life themes has brought the challenge and excitement of portraying 'hard' buildings and surfaces into the medium of textiles.
