My work reflects an ongoing interest in the urban built environment, drawing attention to the background noise of society, highlighting the prosaic detail of the everyday.
Recent work has taken the form of textile graffiti or yarn bombing, embroidering with string around overlooked street furniture in places of transit or leisure, often tracing routes I regularly walk. These pieces are frequently removed after a short time so photographic documentation is essential and close up photographs can reveal angles and elements not immediately visible, bringing tiny details to the fore, consequently becoming artworks in themselves.
The surfaces that these interventions are wrought upon have inspired felted mixed media work and intaglio prints.
Whilst I use a variety of media to express my ideas, my first love is for textiles and stitch, currently much of my work comprises needle-felted mixed fibres incorporating hand dyed or recycled fabric and stitch.
