profile
My interest in embroidery started at a young age whilst watching my grandmother applying beads and sequins to evening dresses. I also completed GCE ‘A Level’ dressmaking whilst at school.
I gain inspiration from many different areas. However the Earth from a geographer’s point of view is a recurring theme and takes many different forms, particularly ideas taken from maps. I am also interested in the narrative journey of people in place and time. Words and phrases will be seen within this context as they are an important part of the research for embroidered pieces.
The vast majority of my work is hand stitched as both the fabric itself and the rhythm of the stitching are important to the artist.
