profile
From an early age I loved fabrics and making things. Straight after school I did a two year diploma in art and design which gave me the confidence to go on to do a degree. Discovering a course which specialised in the design of carpets had my name on it! The degree course took a broad and experimental approach, learning many techniques for decorating and designing textiles and using fine art as a spring board.
The inspiration for my work is my passion for colour. By layering fabric, stitches, dyes and paints I aim to create a surface of broken colour and texture. Mono-printing onto fabric has added another layer of colour and texture which I can then stitch into.
In order to create a design I experiment with paper collage, often using the colours in a favourite painting as a starting point.
