I haven’t always worked as an artist. In fact it would have appeared that I had left art behind on leaving school. After an Economics degree I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and pursued a career in commerce. But the world of ideas and art were always lurking, and when my children were young, I took an MA in Philosophy at Sussex University. Strangely, being immersed in language and discourse created an even greater need to seek out the visual and before long, looking wasn’t enough! I took a Fine Art Textiles course ‘for fun’ and was hooked by the alchemy of dyeing cloth. I continue to explore and develop my dyeing and printing through regular Independent Study with ‘Committed to Cloth’. I have recently used cloth to make pieced quilts, something new to me. I am currently investigating the juxtaposition of mechanically derived pattern with hand-drawn marks. My sources are found in environments where man-made structures and artefacts can be observed amongst wild and natural forms.

commissions
I have led a number of workshops exploring the design possibilities in mark making with the silk screen. I’ve also led workshops exploring colour relationships with multiple-exchange dye baths.
